    Responsibilities

    • Develops and implements the HSE plan for the Somercotes site, ensuring a HSE culture is intrinsic within the organisation

    • Provides advice and guidance to all levels of the organisation on all HSE and legislative issues, ensuring that good and timely business decisions are made.

    • Identifies and records H&S training needs, along with Line Managers, providing training and development as required on a company, departmental and individual level. Researches and develops a library of H&S training resources suited to the business requirements, whilst managing the cost and quality of the training.

    • Where relevant delivers training on HSE topics to elevate awareness.

    • Develops, implements and maintains plans, policies and procedures relating to the HSE Policy Manual.

    • Responsible for ensuring HSE internal and external audits are carried out in a timely manner and corrective actions are documented and closed within the specified time frame.

    • Maintains HSE records for the Somercotes site to comply with UK legislative requirements and company policies and procedures.

    • Responsible for ensuring Accident Investigation and Reporting requirements are carried out and that appropriate corrective actions are agreed and completed in a timely manner.

    • Responsible for ensuring that all necessary licenses, permits and authorisations are in place and renewed as required by current governmental legislation and best practice. Also to ensure that any specified conditions or action levels are monitored and maintained within prescribed limits.

    • Responsible for ensuring that Noise/Dust Surveys are carried out as required and that the site acts on any recommendations made to reduce harmful exposures.

    • Liaises with HR department to ensure that employees requiring medical monitoring according to our H&S programmes are referred to our Occupational Health Service provider.

    • Responsible for ensuring that risk assessments take place and ensuring implementation of the recommendations

    • Responsible for ensuring that COSHH assessments are up to date and the appropriate individuals are trained

    • Develop the H&S management structure for Site, set agenda and take the minutes and H&S committee meetings on a monthly basis ensuring consistent progress is made towards the actions

    • Ensure that all new starters receive a H&S induction including Machine and electrical safety, manual handling, VDU use, posture and powered conveyance (where relevant).

    • Ensure that staff are kept up to date with any changes in H&S legislation or procedures on site via noticeboards / line managers.

    • Advises and implements on the appropriate PPE for the tasks of the organisation in all areas of the business.

    • Ensures that we are continually looking at ways to improve our commitment to the environment, creates and implements action plans to reduce waste, emissions etc. We aim to be zero to landfill in the most labour effective fashion.

    • Close collaboration with the UK site management team to ensure engagement and support from the team for all HSE activities.

    • Supports the global H&S initiative by reviewing and improving the UK site in relation to the corporate guidelines.

    • Proactively and visibly supports the Health and Safety standards, rules and regulations of the organisation.

    Requirements

    Education

    • NEBOSH qualified

    • Good level of PC literacy

    • Ability to deal with people at all levels of the organisation is essential

    Experience

    • Extensive experience as a HSE Manager within a manufacturing environment.
    • Experience of delivering training and development
    • Proven experience of changing culture in relation to HSE
    • Good up to date knowledge of UK and H&S law
    • Able to influence and not afraid to challenge at all levels to ensure that Health and Safety standards are met across the site.
