Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, the Communications Associate will thrive as a collaborative team member and approach challenges with a proactive and growth-focused mindset. The position prepares, coordinates, and develops much of HBG's communications, which requires discretion and strict confidentiality.
The right candidate for this position will be a creative problem solver with at least 2 years of professional experience. Ideal candidates will have exceptional writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail, as well as the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Internal Communications Support
Support all company messaging and HBG's intranet through content creation, homepage graphics, company calendar updates, and site administration.
Coordinate content from departments across the company to produce weekly internal newsletters.
Create and maintain resources for staff on intranet, including updates to the intranet calendar.
Produce corporate display screens and internal signage for events and initiatives.
Provide general support for sustainability, employee culture, and social impact initiatives.
Manage HBG's ebook and audiobook library for staff, including uploading new titles and creating curated feature shelves.
Gather and organize data and research to support HBG's corporate responsibility and sustainability reports.
Track and maintain files for Communications team records and update process and training guides.
Collaborate on special projects and initiatives as assigned, including annual acquisition audits and DEI reports.
External Communications & Community Support
Coordinate the drafting, editing, and distribution of press releases.
Assist in preparing and delivering media pitches.
Research and compile talking points and briefing materials for interview preparation.
Support the Senior Director of Communications in executing strategies to elevate HBG's public profile.
Stay informed of industry trends and best practices in publicity and communications.
Track and support organizations that HBG partners with on literacy initiatives.
Event Support
Plan and coordinate logistics for internal and external events, including registration, venue booking, and materials preparation.
Coordinate communications for event promotion, including press releases, invitations, and follow-up materials.
Assist with planning and execution of internal and external events, including the Hachette Reads program and author events.
Provide logistical support for DEI initiatives and company-wide gatherings.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Preferred Skills:
A bachelor's degree in English, media, communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
At least 2 years of relevant experience and a proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
Professionalism when working with senior leaders and external partners.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding of brand voice and brand identity.
Proficiency in basic digital media content creation and distribution (Canva, Office suite, CMS, Mailchimp, etc.) and a willingness to learn new technologies and platforms.
A curiosity to explore innovative branding and communication opportunities.
A proactive team-oriented attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Agile and accurate when handling simultaneous time-sensitive projects.
A proactive self-starter with excellent follow-through skills.
Passionate about corporate communications, media/publicity, storytelling, news, culture, social impact, social media and diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
Knowledge of all top social media platforms and best practices.
Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
Openness to learning new technologies and platforms and ability to transition between innovative brainstorming to strategic action.

The compensation for this position is $53,200 - $60,000. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
