The Manager will be excited by an evolving calendar of events and products to showcase on social and digital media platforms. They must be available to cover in-person events, and be flexible with scheduling so last-minute events receive the same exceptional level of coverage as those planned well in advance. Events may happen in the office or locally throughout New York City, and can be anything from promotional (e.g., book/author signings, book fairs); cultural and industry related; and diversity, equity and inclusion focused to those sponsored by HBG or featuring HBG executives and staff, including seminars, conferences, presentations, panels, studio visits, employee resource group events, and other employee events occurring in the office, etc. This person must be able to pivot at a moment's notice to cover breaking content opportunities.
All content developed by the Manager must align with HBG's communications strategy, emphasizing community, culture, careers, and commerce, and spotlight HBG's multiverse of award-winning authors, books, and audiobooks; top-selling products like games, calendars, and gifts; and its talented and dedicated staff who help create, market, and distribute it all from locations around the country.
The Manager will be expected to become fluent in storytelling about HBG and its cultural impact, philanthropic values, environmental initiatives, and publishing industry leadership. The Manager will create forward-thinking and engaging strategic messaging, increase engagement across platforms to attract/retain top talent including future HBG employees, authors, media and press, ad more, with success measured and adjusted regularly as described in the "Success" section below. This key role requires a minimum of 3 days in the office, as well as flexible hours to attend and cover signature and timely events, including weekends, with occasional travel.
Responsibilities
Content Creation, Branding & Digital Storytelling: Serve as one of the company's top internal and external storytellers creating high-level written and visual content; strategically develop and execute creative, mission-aligned digital campaigns across all HBG digital platforms (internally and externally); create content based on media news, publicity successes, corporate messaging and evolving branding priorities and decipher which stories to promote internally and externally. Create an evolving and engaging internal and external digital calendar including content for HBG's intranet "Bookends," focusing on storytelling, employee features, and company updates, as well as content for all social media platforms. Promote book talks, pathways to publishing careers, corporate social responsibility, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
Website Management: Regularly update internal and external websites with key updates.
Event Attendance & Coverage: Attend and cover events, including those occurring outside of traditional work hours (weekends, etc.) to capture and share content (travel and expenses covered)
Collaboration & Support: Contribute to additional communications assignments as needed.
Measuring Success
Success will be regularly measured through a combination of quantitative and qualitative metrics aligned with the company's goals of community engagement, brand visibility, and mission-driven content. Success will be determined by the Manager's ability to effectively promote HBG's authors, books, culture, and values, drive meaningful engagement, and contribute to the company's long-term growth and social impact initiatives. Key performance indicators (KPIs) include:
Company-Wide Collaboration: The Manager must strategically work across the entire company to collaborate and effectively support all HBG communications and marketing efforts
Team Player: Positive feedback from colleagues on teamwork, content strategy support, and contribution to broader communication efforts.
Adherence to HBG's Core Values: Consistently integrating HBG's business pillars into content, events, and social media campaigns.

Event Coverage, Engagement and Impact: Successful real-time event coverage, measured by the volume and quality of content produced (e.g., photos, live videos, stories), and the engagement it generates. Quick and timely storytelling to which event-related content contributes to greater community interaction, book sales, or internal employee engagement.
Content Quality & Performance: Evaluation of the creativity and relevance of all content in relation to HBG's mission and brand values, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals (community, culture, careers, and commerce).
Content Reach and Impressions: Monitoring and sharing the reach and impressions of posts, videos, and campaigns with regular assessments of how well the content is performing with target audiences.
Social Media Engagement & Metrics: Audience and community Growth in likes, comments, shares, and overall engagement rates across all platforms (Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, etc.); increase in followers/subscribers across social media channels, reflecting the effectiveness of content and messaging; content interaction: tracking the level of interaction with content related to book promotions, events, career opportunities, and corporate initiatives.
Website Traffic & Performance: Measuring the traffic to the external website and intranet (Bookends) that is driven by social media content, press releases, and other updates.
Updates Accuracy & Timeliness: Ensuring that the website and intranet are consistently updated with timely and accurate content, reflecting current events, book launches, and corporate initiatives.
Brand Awareness & Sentiment: Analyzing feedback, comments, and reviews from followers to gauge how well HBG's mission, values, and initiatives are being received by the community; maintaining consistency in messaging and tone that reflects HBG's values and culture across all digital channels.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, digital media, or a related field
Availability to work a minimum of 3 days in the office, as well as flexible hours to attend and cover signature and timely events, including weekends, with occasional travel
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in social media management, marketing, communications, journalism, digital content creation, or a similar role
Maintain confidentiality and work one-on-one with senior leaders
Exceptionally detail-oriented with exceptional writing, editing, and time management skills with an understanding of brand voice, identity, audience engagement, and digital trends
A strong portfolio of professional work or content demonstrating creativity, engagement, collaboration, and brand alignment
Knowledge of all top social media platforms and best practices
Regular and advanced use of content design, scheduling, and analytical tools, including but not limited to digital photography, Canva, Capcut, iMovie, Adobe Creative Suite, Hootsuite, Sprout, Monday.com, native or 3rd party analytics, Mailchimp, and basic html and SEO

The compensation for this position is $65,000 - $70,000 . There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
