This is a NYC based role. Please note our current hybrid model is two days per week in the office. Effective in January 2025, HBG's hybrid model will be 3 days in-office, 2 days working from home.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee Artisan and Workman publicity team of 2 full-time staff members and 1-2 part time interns.

  • Collaborate with Executive Director of Marketing & Publicity and senior members of the marketing and publicity teams to strategize and implement tailored publicity and integrated marketing campaigns across an array of titles covering topics ranging from cookbooks to parenting to business to calendars, brands and more.

  • Lead the publicity and integrated marketing team in creating customized strategies to connect each title with its intended audience and extending reach to new audiences with a focus on ensuring that effort matches up with sales impact.

  • Execute publicity and integrated marketing campaigns for a variety of frontlist, priority titles and bestselling authors from the early stages of planning and strategy through publication and campaign execution. Responsible for executing all aspects of select campaigns including creating press materials, producing author tours and events, booking national and local media, overseeing travel arrangements, developing and implementing preorder campaigns, overseeing influencer marketing, and brand partnerships.

  • Collaborate with Executive Director of Marketing & Publicity to allocate title and overhead budgets.

  • Collaborate with Executive Director of Marketing & Publicity and Director of Digital Marketing on advertising strategy and budgets for publicity and integrated marketing campaigns.

  • Mentor and assist publicity team and advise on campaign strategy and execution as well as analyzing tactics and adjust strategies accordingly with a focus on driving sales. Oversee work and professional development of team.

  • Partner with Executive Director of Marketing & Publicity to lead seasonal brainstorm meetings and create marketing plans.

  • Support editorial acquisitions by attending select proposal meetings and writing and presenting promotional plans.

  • Work closely with marketing and digital counterparts to facilitate collaboration, communication, streamline processes, and ensure all efforts are in sync.

  • Cultivate and maintain close working relationships with members of the press (broadcast, radio, print, online, trades, etc.), pursue and lead pitch meetings, seek out new media outlets, and brainstorm creative pitch ideas.

  • Focus on integrated publicity tactics, including marketing, social media, internal communications, direct to consumer efforts, etc.

  • Collaborate on the planning and presentations at Sales Conference.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive book marketing/publicity management experience with demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills

  • Strong creative vision and brand building experience across multiple fiction and/or nonfiction categories

  • Proven ability to create strong integrated campaigns, including traditional as well as paid social, programmatic and search advertising strategies

  • Analytical skillset to optimize campaigns for ROI and develop audience insights and targeting strategies that reach existing fans while simultaneously expanding the audience

  • Ability to conceive unique marketing campaigns and successfully execute consumer-facing campaigns. Examples required

  • Broad expertise in leading and emerging marketing practices in both publishing and adjacent industries and ability to share best practices across the imprint

  • Results-oriented, motivated, resourceful, hungry to learn, & demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in team- and author-facing settings

The compensation range for this position is $100,000-120,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location - talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
