Position summary

jacket and paperback cover mechanicals (spine, flaps, back ads), as well as spine dies
• Route, track, maintain, and update frontlist and backlist mechanicals through all stages (e.g. initial build, text corrections and color corrections, preflight, final preparation and delivery of press-ready files to Production/press)
• Ensure retail cover assets are uploaded into proprietary database
• Research and license art, illustration, photography, and fonts, processing both invoices and contracts as needed
• Convert hardcover and paperback cover designs to audio format
• Attend to day-to-day art department / office needs (e.g. monitor and update multiple databases and spreadsheets; organize, maintain, and archive digital files, etc.)
• Design, route, and deliver Publicity, Marketing, and/or other miscellaneous materials as requested or necessary (e.g. ads, catalogs, galleys, etc.)
• Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Bachelor's degree in art/design preferred
• 1-4 years of experience in publishing art department strongly preferred; interest in non-fiction books required
• Link to portfolio demonstrating proficiency with typography and design required for application; print design strongly preferred
• Must be proficient in Macintosh operating systems and Adobe software (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro, preferred)
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the aptitude to communicate effectively
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively

The compensation for this position is a range from $52,000-$62,000 . There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects. This usually occurs in November and December only.
