Position summary

on, you will propose and lead cutting edge research projects to push the boundaries of knowledge and technology for Hitachi Energy's future products and services.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Propose, contribute to, and lead R&D projects in the field of power system operation and related fields.

  • Collaborate with a diverse team of researchers and engineers across Hitachi Energy Research and Hitachi Energy business units to identify and solve real-world challenges for our customers.

  • Collaborate and support all business units and ensure successful execution of research projects.

  • Serve as the power systems expert in interdisciplinary teams spanning machine learning, cybersecurity, human-technology interaction, etc.

  • Identify technology gaps that address present and future business needs in the field of power system operation technologies.

  • Propose and work on novel ideas and concepts for power system control at timescales ranging from 1-second to intra-day, for next stages of the energy transition.

  • Actively network in the company and distribute your knowledge and expertise.

  • Collaborate with external partners including universities, national labs, startups, and vendors.

  • Disseminate results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports.

Your Background:

  • Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power systems, or Master's with equivalent industrial experience.

  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.

  • Prior industrial experience in transmission or distribution control room operations (frontend or backend) is highly valued.

  • Prior industrial experience with one or more control technologies like SCADA, EMS, DMS, or substation automation is highly desired.

  • Knowledge in reliability standards and/or operation guidelines such as those provided by NERC or ISOs is preferred.

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired: power system modeling, dynamics, operation, control, or planning.

  • Familiar with relevant standards and protocols such as IEC 61850 (GOOSE and SV), DNP3, PMU protocols, etc.

  • Proficient in computation and simulation tools, such as Matlab, Simulink, PSCAD, PSS/E, DIgSILENT-PowerFactory, etc.

  • Fluency in common programming languages like Python or C++ preferred.

  • Theoretical background demonstrated through publications in reputable transactions and conferences is preferred.

  • Strong innovation capability and competence in application-oriented research.

  • Self-motivated, curious, and ability to learn new technologies.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills in English.
