    Position summary

    m talent development to enable execution of activities within the Global and Regional E&D function.

    The role will be initially focused on projects in Visioncare Limerick, with the likelihood to expand to additional Medtech projects in Cork and occasionally outside Ireland if the need arises. Support of projects outside Limerick is typically on a virtual remote basis with occasional site visits for project & design alignment.

    Key Responsibilities :

    You will

    • Work with JNJ Operating Company Teams and E&PS Project Managers to ensure Design elements of projects are correctly implemented by third party Architectural Engineering firms

    • Prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) for Architect/Engineer (A/E) services and leads A/E interviews/selection and on-boarding process.

    • Prepare and negotiate standard JNJ contract with AE Firms for design works.

    • Lead the front end design process with the AE firm including all aspects of design (Arch, Mech, Elec, Process, Automation, etc) working closely with operating company team.

    • Assure that the IDEA (Ideation, Definition, Execution and Assessment) and Project Delivery Process (PDP) process is followed.

    • Work with the E&D Director, Project Dir./Project Mgr. to lead the performance (cost, schedule, quality) of A/E firm and define correction action plans if necessary. This will include the hosting of Monthly Design Principals Review sessions.

    • Provide engineering leadership and direct the design for projects.

    • Establish plans for personal talent development, diversification, and professional development

    • Develop personal yearly regional goals and objectives that support the overall J&J E&PS goals.

    • Execute short and long term tactical engineering plans and programs based on strategic departmental plans.

    • The role will require occasional travel within EMEA to project sites usually during Project Definition and for major Design Reviews. JNJ seek to optimize use of virtual meetings via Skype and Global Connect for regular project meetings.

    Throughout the project lifecycle, the E&D Lead will:

    • Assure use of Value Improving Practices (VIPs) such as Value Engineering and attendance at Constructability Reviews

    • Assure the appropriate J&J standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements (cGXP, EHS, ...) are incorporated eg EHS By Design

    • Coordinate/lead key design reviews with SMEs including other corporate or affiliate resources such as EHSS, Risk Management, WW Security, etc.

    • Assure that the J&J Standard Design Platforms are deployed on all projects. Setup project specific training for internal and external SMEs.

    • Assure projects meet the J&J Sustainability policy and drive the LEED certification process.

    • Ensure AE issues Monthly Reports. Review AE progress and identify action plans where required. Implement Earned Value tracking on larger projects.

    • Lead effort to resolve key design conflicts in construction and commissioning phase with appropriate SMEs

    • Participate in the final close-out with the A/E firm including the Lessons Learned process.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical). MS/MBA a plus.

    Experience and Skills:

    • 15+ years of experience

    • Proficiency in project/design management, including obtaining agreement on project definition and priorities, and ensuring that resources, capabilities and processes are in place to deliver the design efficiently and effectively.

    • Experience working with Pharmaceutical, Consumer Products and/or Medical Device Manufacturing process equipment and systems, architectural finishes, clean/plant utilities and HVAC.

    • Prior experience working in a lead role at an AE Design Firm or directly leading AE Firms is an advantage

    • Ability to develop appropriate metrics for engineering performance and sets up plans to provide continuous improvement.

    • Demonstrated history of collaboration across other functional areas to establish effective working relationships within a matrixed organization.

    • Expertise delivering complex projects/programs on schedule and budget working with project teams

    • Prior experience of dealing with multi-national teams and projects is an advantage
