Create Product Designs: Develop product BOMs and design drawings that meet customer technical requirements; coordinate design activities with equipment division Production, Purchasing, and Quality as needed.
Assess Installed Products: Assist in evaluating the current state of fielded products and define scopes of work for major upgrades and refurbishments.
Coordinate Project Schedules: Work with drafting, sales, and operations teams to align engineering deliverables with project timelines.
Manage External Design Efforts: Coordinate outside engineering and design resources to ensure alignment with Division standards and objectives.
Support Cross-Division Engineering: Collaborate with equipment division Engineering teams on shared design responsibilities and technical support needs.
Drive Continuous Improvement: Recommend and implement design improvements, optimization opportunities, and cost reductions.
Lead Engineering Initiatives: Serve as project leader for design, testing, and prototype development programs.
Resolve Technical Issues: Work with vendors to resolve design or component issues; support production teams with engineering clarifications.
Provide Field Support: Travel to customer sites or trade shows to provide engineering support as required.
Localize Component Designs: Develop and design U.S. manufactured components to replace imported components where feasible.
Enhance Product Designs: Collaborate with equipment division engineering to recommend product enhancements and improve system reliability and maintainability.
Promote Division Excellence: Represent SCD professionally through effective collaboration with other MEPPI departments, suppliers, and customers.
What You Bring
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Minimum of 3 years' experience in a design engineering role, or equivalent education and experience
Technical Expertise:
Intermediate knowledge of industrial/utility-grade power equipment and applications
Experience reading, interpreting, and creating technical drawings and engineering materials
Skills & Attributes:
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Effective communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
Self-starter with strong initiative and follow-through
Technology Proficiency:
Advanced skills in MS Office
Proficiency with CAD tools, 3D modeling software, and electrical design packages
