- Support risk assessment activities, manage hazard logs, track safety actions, and oversee resolution of identified risks.
- Prepare, update, and manage safety verification and validation (V&V) documentation, audits, reviews, and compliance checks.
- Coordinate with system engineers, hardware/software teams, testers, project managers, and suppliers to embed safety practices and processes throughout all phases of the project.
- Interface with railway authorities, Independent Safety Assessors (ISA), and participate in certification, re-certification, and regulatory processes.
- Investigate, monitor, and resolve safety incidents, near-misses, and technical issues by coordinating with subject matter experts.
- Contribute to and direct activities related to requirements specification, architecture, integration, testing, commissioning, and design reviews with a focus on safety.
- Support integration-level safety activities, including assessment of third-party equipment, review of external safety artifacts, and aggregation of safety evidence.
- Provide mentoring, guidance, and technical leadership to junior safety engineers and lead safety discussions with customers and stakeholders.
- Further the goals and positive, professional image of the Engineering Department by conducting business with other MEPPI departments and outside contacts in a timely and cooperative manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical, Systems, Software, Safety, or related technical field with a minimum of 10 years of experience in project engineering, system engineering, systems safety, or equivalent education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of rail industry standards, safety and modern safety analysis methods.
- Advanced knowledge of CBTC, wayside signaling equipment and radio communication networks.
- Advanced knowledge of vital system and vital software development methodologies.
- Advanced interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required to communicate with customers and employees.
- Advanced knowledge of the development lifecycle and lifecycle products.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office products and scheduling software.
