    Position summary

    ond to, and recover from disruptions to business operations, the firm is recruiting for a Head of Operational Resilience - Managing Director. Given the breadth of the program, the regulatory visibility, and necessary interaction with senior leadership and the Board of Directors, Mizuho is seeking an articulate, senior leader with a successful track record and hands on experience designing and implementing an Operational Resilience Program at other financial institutions.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    • Directly lead the Operational Resilience, Business Continuity Planning, Disaster Recovery, and Resolution Planning functions of the firm across the Americas

    • Closely collaborate with key stakeholders from across the firm including Front Office Business Lines, Technology, Operations, Risk, Finance, Legal, Compliance and Corporate Strategy to lead the implementation and ongoing management of the Operational Resilience Program

    • Design and deliver a comprehensive Operational Resilience Program consistent with international standards and practices being adopted by Mizuho entities across the globe

    • Develop and deliver a comprehensive, cross-functional operational resilience strategy and framework that supports overall business objectives

    • Document and maintain Operational Resilience Program framework components methodologies and incorporate all phases of the lifecycle into program activities including:

      • Identifying and prioritizing critical business services
      • Setting of impact tolerances
      • Mapping of interconnections & interdependences
      • Performing scenario analysis & testing
      • Analyzing, implementing, and tracking remediation actions resulting from scenario analysis & testing outcomes
      • Implementing robust program governance and Board-level reporting capabilities including defining metrics
      • Performing an annual program self-assessment review to ensure the program aligns with changes in the business, regulatory expectations, and industry insights
    • Transition from the launch of a strategic initiative to a business-as-usual operation

    • Collaborate effectively with other senior internal stakeholders across the enterprise to develop escalation / interaction frameworks from incident to crisis management

    • Oversee and lead business continuity planning activities

    • Oversee and lead disaster recovery activities

    • Oversee and manage resolution planning activities

    • Establish and maintain related policies, standards and procedures

    • Ensure the program delivers on it mandate, executes effectively, operates commercially, drives change, creates efficiencies, and achieves desired outcomes consistent with business objectives and regulatory expectations

    • Lead and develop an interdisciplinary team supporting these activities and build the business case for future investment, as needed

    • Ensure operational resilience principles and practices are understood and applied across the organization

    • Educate and train teams on operational resilience best practices and strategies

    Qualifications

    • 15+ years financial services industry and / or management consulting experience required

    • 10+ years of operational resilience / business continuity / disaster recover experience required

    • 3+ years of resolution planning engagement and support experience desired

    • A strong leader with the ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholders, prioritize objectives, and drive significant change in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment

    • A track record of hands-on design and implementation of operational resilience programs at other financial institutions involving progressively increasing levels of responsibility

    • Experience with recovery strategy and requirements, risk assessments, business impact analyses, testing, crisis and incident response management

    • Sound knowledge of both US and international operational resilience / business continuity / disaster recover regulatory requirements for the financial services industry

    • Experience in implementing / integrating technology solutions across these resilience domains

    • Ability to think commercial and adapt solutions to align with the risk appetite of the firm

    • Analyze complex data and develop meaningful insights to inform decision-making

    • Collaborative team player and relationship builder with the ability to build trust

    • Exceptional organizational and communication skills

    • Detail oriented, with strong problem solving and analytical skills

    • Highly professional, adaptable and entrepreneurial mindset

    • Exemplary integrity and business ethics

    • Bachelor's and / or Master's degree

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

    • Eligible to work in the US

    The expected base salary ranges from $285,000.00 -$300,000.00. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
