Job Summary
As a key member of the Regulatory Requirements Department, the Lead Regulatory Analyst will report to the Regulatory Requirements Manager. The selected candidate will be someone who is highly motivated and an analytical thinker, working through complex problems in order to reach justifiable conclusions to support their team, by utilizing hands-on experience and gaining an in-depth understanding of the utility business revenue model and Regulatory accounting principles. Provide support to meet business goals and objectives.
Multitasking abilities are a plus, due to the fact that they will be wearing different job hats from day-to-day.
Job Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Assist in the monthly revenue and expense analysis, variance explanations and forecasting.
• Prepare and document annual budget model, including gaining advanced understanding of all components of the budget and their correlation to specific areas of the business.
• Develop expertise as a subject matter expert in the calculation and analysis of uncollectible reserve.
• Perform ad hoc analyses of revenue and expenses related to a wide variety of inquiries from upper management.
• Identify areas for process improvements through automation (e.g. excel formulas/macros/Hyperion/Tableau/Access) to reduce manual errors in monthly revenue reporting process and annual revenue budgeting process.
• Assists with various audit tasks, including providing support/and or documentation for internal and external audit and various ad-hoc reports needed.
• Assist in creation of rate case schedules to be prepared and be provided to our regulator. Responds to and resolves issues and requests from other business areas and client (LIPA) regarding various regulatory inquiries. Researches open regulatory inquiries and supporting documentation.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Economics
• Minimum of 7 years of Financial Analysis/Accounting experience
• Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
• Must be proficient in Microsoft suite
• Demonstrated strong communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of management
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to think from an objective perspective
• Ability to make sound judgments within established policies and procedures as well as challenge current processes in order to achieve greater efficiencies
• Strong organizational skills and project management skills
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience using of SAP and Hyperion
• Experience in a utility and/or highly regulated industry
