What Your Job Will Be Like:
Do you want to join a dynamic team that solves significant cybersecurity issues for our nation's security? We are seeking a manager (job title: Manager, R&D Science and Engineering) to lead the Critical Cyber Systems Security department (8765), stewarding capabilities spanning applied research and software engineering activities. You will be responsible for a team architecting and developing solutions for US critical infrastructure security. You will be responsible for leading strategy for Software Systems Engineering and ensuring alignment across Sandia's cyber mission areas.
As a manager in Center 8700, you will be expected to engage in Center, Division, and Labs leadership roles (e.g., cross-organizational leadership for capabilities, LDRD Investment Area Teams, Center strategic planning), hire and mentor staff, manage programs with internal and external customers, and closely collaborate with colleagues at Sandia's other sites and externally. You will use your knowledge and experience to independently judge work quality, performance, and alignment of results with customer expectations. Given the diverse customers in the Cyber Mission Area, you must be able to leverage synergies between program areas to their mutual benefit while respecting classification and customer sensitivity constraints. Leadership of programs and both internal and external technical collaborations will require travel to multiple Sandia sites, Washington DC, and other locations to meet with customers, collaborators, and other stakeholders.
As a capability leader, you will be responsible for engaging within the Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security (CCIS) portfolio, whose primary customers are Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and Science & Technology (S&T). Success in this space is measured by the strength and trust in internal and external partnerships you steward. You will be responsible for reinforcing current partnerships and developing new ones.

Build Sandia leadership support for Software Systems Engineering, and facilitate development of high-quality proposals from the department
Balance the acquisition and development of staff resources, capabilities, and existing and future projects or programs
Oversee work that is rooted in the fundamentals of science and engineering and requires a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles
Due to the nature of the work, the selected candidate must be able to work onsite in Livermore CA, and be willing/able to travel regularly, up to 20%.

About Our Team:
Sandia is a world-class leader in cybersecurity. Today, cybersecurity is a daunting national security problem, and we're applying decades of expertise to the task. The Civilian Cyber Solutions group (8760) currently focuses on three major areas of research and development: malware characterization and software understanding, cyber systems engineering, and AI security. With a history of applying research to solve real world homeland security problems, we develop techniques and technologies for preventing disruption and enhancing recovery in vital high-consequence cyber and critical infrastructure systems.
Posting Duration:
This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of three (3) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.
Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Applicants for employment need to also be able to obtain and maintain SCI access, which requires US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
EEO:
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.
NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
