What Your Job Will Be Like:

Join a dynamic team that helps tackle some of the most challenging issues facing our nation's security! You could be the highly motivated individual to support development of multi-scale, multi-physics computational modeling capabilities for understanding failure modes in heterogeneously integrated microelectronic devices. This position will work closely with experimentalists to develop and test novel characterization methods for failure analysis.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Develop and run finite element based, multi-physics computational analysis tools.

• Collaborate on multi-disciplinary teams, and with partner institutions from national labs, academia, and industry.

• Communicate results in scientific conferences, journal publications, and semi-annual consortia workshops.

Postdoctoral Appointee Salary is $95,500.00/annual for NM Location.

Hybrid Work: The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Qualifications We Require:

• PhD, conferred within Two years in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering, computer, or physical science field

• Experience with computational simulation tools and processes

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L Security Clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

• Experience with geometry modeling and meshing tools

• Previous experience with coupled multi-physics FEM software

• Experience with scripting languages for pre- and post-processing and simulation code customization

• Experience developing successful research proposals

• Previous experience with thermal and/or mechanical property characterization

• Strong teaming skills and an ability to interact with colleagues with diverse technical backgrounds

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

About Our Team:

The Thermal Sciences and Engineering Department conducts a broad range of technical activities focused on heat transfer, numerical analyses, and related thermal capabilities. Our work spans fundamental research and development to engineering analysis of system performance, safety, and control of thermal environments.

Posting Duration:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information:

This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.

Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
