    What Your Job Will Be Like:

    Are you passionate about working in a high functioning, inter-disciplinary collaborative team in facilities management? We are currently looking for a highly skilled Electrical Engineer!

    On any given day, you may be called on to:

    • Design, or oversee design of, high, medium, and low voltage electrical systems for safe, reliable, and efficient operations that follow code; as well as electrical equipment, controls, components, systems, and products, including meters for overhead and underground distribution, and transmission line construction and maintenance.

    • Plan for maintenance by modeling the system, conducting condition assessments, analyzing data, balancing loads, and ensuring reliability by identifying upgrade and lifecycle replacement options.

    • Research and tests new and innovative techniques and equipment to save energy in building electrical systems or utility contracts.

    • Assess capabilities of existing high, medium, and low voltage electrical components, equipment, systems, substations, looped and radial systems, relays, meters, and networks.

    • Provide systems analyses of electronic systems and subsystems.

    • Perform lighting calculations, analysis, and lightning protection designs, for both interior and exterior lighting systems.

    • Support photovoltaic systems designs to ensure safe and compliant operation.

    • Write detailed power outage procedures for project and maintenance activities.

    • Develop and apply inspection and test procedures for components and systems, including the Western Electrical Coordinating Council (WECC) reliability standards and reporting requirements.

    • Perform planning and forecasting for site 10-year load projections.

    • Analyze and review arc flash calculations in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA-70E) and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements. Reviews and manages the electrical metering system for the power distribution network.

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

    Salary Range:

    $88,600 - $172,300

    *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    Qualifications We Require:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline, plus five (5) years of experience with an emphasis in low voltage (< 600VAC) building electrical power and distribution from an ABET accredited institution; or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.

    • Demonstrated experience working in one or more of the following:

    • A Facilities organization

    • An Engineering firm

    • A Construction industry

    • Inspection with design experience

    • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE L-level security clearance.

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • Electrical Engineering degree that focuses on power and power distribution (< 600VACLicensed Engineer (P.E.)

    • Experience with current electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA 70E).

    • Ability to obtain a Professional Engineering License.

    • Basic knowledge of Facilities/Commercial/Laboratory engineering in design, construction and contracting.

    • Experience with Arc Flash Hazard calculations and software, short circuit and load flow calculations.

    • Experience trouble shooting electrical systems, including the use, and interpretation, of power quality instrumentation for diagnostics of electrical power systems.

    • Demonstrated analytical and reasoning skills necessary to identify and resolve electrical risk issues with the mission in mind and assist in making recommendations to management and key customers.

    • Demonstrated experience with the coordination of power outages.

    • Able to initiate effective internal customer relationships.

    • Ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.

    • Experience with NNSA, DOE or other federal government requirements.

    • Able to conduct research, investigate alternative solutions, and recommend solutions on problems affecting electrical systems.

    Our Team is the Facilities organization, part of Division 4000 (D4K), and is responsible for Sandia National Laboratories Infrastructure & Security Operations. The span of facility coverage involves a Sandia presence in seven states and the District of Columbia, and includes:

    • Albuquerque, NM

    • Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), NM

    • Yucca Mountain, NV

    • Kauai, HI

    • Livermore, CA

    • Tonopah, NV

    • Pantex, TX

    The Division 4000 Facilities teams are responsible for completing ~60,000 annual work requests and executing an over $228M budget covering a broad range of services, maintenance, and construction projects.The Sandia facility portfolio includes:

    • 7.6M GSF in buildings and trailers

    • 194K total acres

    • 1.3M GSF of Office and 1.8M GSF of Lab Space.

    Our goal is to provide a stable and secure platform for Sandia to accomplish its national security mission. Our scope includes:

    • Managing and maintaining existing buildings and utilities

    • Providing site services for our customers

    • Planning, modifying, and constructing new buildings, and

    • Demolishing substandard structures.

    Our team will be in Center 4800, one of 4 Centers (4100, 4700, 4800 & 4900) that make up the Facilities Group within Division 4000. Each of these Centers has specific duties within the Facilities mission including Strategic Planning, Facilities Management, Maintenance, Construction, Security, and Space Management.

    The Facilities Electrical Engineer position will be assigned to support 1 of 5 Departments (4821, 4822, 4823, 4824 & 4827) that represent Facilities Area Management (FAM) teams that manage an assigned portfolio of buildings and ancillary structures. The FAMs are staffed and supported by a number of Facilities professionals including Tactical Planners, Operation Leads, Facilities Engineers, Designers and Architects that are staffed based on the scope and size of their portfolio. Maintenance, Construction, Strategic and Tactical Space Planning teams provide matrixed support across all the different FAMs and Tech Areas.

    The broad array of traditional Facilities services provided by Division 4000 are all coordinated and managed through a Facilities Management System (FMS) with a clear set of roles and responsibilities for each of the many types of craft and professionals supporting our customers. It is our goal to partner with our customers to respond to building issues, service requirements and support the needs of their missions.
