    Position summary

ware developers, rely on Sonatype to optimize their software supply chains.

We're looking for a Data Scientist to join our growing AI Ops team.

As a Data Scientist in our AI Operations, you will expand Sonatype's ability to answer high-impact GTM and operational questions with speed, rigor, and trust. The AI Ops team helps the business move faster and make better decisions by turning data into trusted insights.

This is a mid-level Data Scientist role for someone who enjoys ambiguity, execution, and impact. You will help scale our analytical capacity, answering real business questions that influence how Sonatype operates and grows. You will also partner closely with RevOps and senior business stakeholders to turn ambiguous questions into validated insights, experiments, and models that directly influence decisions.

    What you'll do:

    • Explore and analyze GTM and operational data to answer high-impact questions.

    • Design experiments and define success metrics that leaders can trust.

    • Build and evaluate functional models that support decision-making.

    • Partner with RevOps and AI Ops to scope problems and define metrics, success criteria, and deliver practical solutions.

    • Ship clear, well-documented analytical artifacts others can integrate and build on.

    What you bring:

    • 3+ years of experience in applied data science, machine learning, analytics or AI research

    • Strong Python and SQL skills.

    • Comfort with common DS/ML tooling (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn)

    • Experience pulling/transforming data from real production systems, and turning large, messy data into insights and features.

    • Exposure to model evaluation practices (baseline building, offline metrics, error analysis, experiment design)

    • Ability to communicate insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

    • Comfort explaining trade-offs, metrics, and findings to diverse audiences.

    • Ability to work independently in an async, fast, and delivery-focused environment

It'd be great if you also had:

    • Experience using platforms like Databricks, MLflow, or model serving/monitoring tools (at any scale)

    • Familiarity with version control (Git) and collaborative workflows.

    • Experience with LLMs/embeddings/RAG and how to evaluate them beyond "vibes"

    • Any exposure to Sales, GTM, customer success tooling.

    • Comfort building lightweight internal tools (small APIs, pipelines, automations) that help others move faster.
