In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for reducing the risk of workplace injuries and ensuring internal compliance with relevant state, federal, and local safety regulations. This role requires strong collaboration throughout OneSource and with our parent company, Sonepar. The Health & Safety Manager will work closely with Sonepar and their subsidiaries to ensure alignment, best practices, and continuous improvement efforts are communicated and shared.
What you will do:
Training and Education
Regularly review and update health and safety policies and procedures to align with industry best practices and local, state, and federal regulations and agencies.
Design and maintain a robust health and safety training program specific to employee job positions and duties, state/federal regulatory requirements, and Sonepar requirements.
Perform in-house safety training courses for company employees, including Powered Industrial Truck (PIT), Fall Protection (PFAS), Hazard Communication, Ergonomic (Back Safety), and site-specific hazard awareness.
Compliance and Recordkeeping
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and all other relevant local, state, and federal health and safety regulations applicable to OneSource's operations.
Prepare and submit all required health and safety documentation, including OSHA 300 logs, workers' compensation claims, and safety audit and inspection records.
Maintain detailed records of employee training, safety incidents, inspections/audits, corrective actions, and other employee compliance programs.
Manage safety records and ensure compliance with third-party client safety audit platforms (e.g., Avetta, ISN).
Incident Investigation and Reporting
Build and maintain a robust incident management system (IMS), including communication, reporting procedures, coordination with local urgent cares, and the third-party on-call incident intervention contractor (e.g., Nurse Triage).
Lead investigations into workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Manage the employees' return-to-work program.
Hazard Assessment, Prevention, and Control
Conduct or oversee regular safety audits and risk assessments across all company locations to identify and reduce risks and hazards.
Identify and maintain appropriate engineering, administration, and personal protective equipment (PPE) controls for hazard mitigation.
Develop and maintain hazard control plans and site-specific health and safety plans as needed.
Identify the necessary safety equipment, policies, and controls to maintain a safe working environment.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with leadership teams to integrate health and safety practices into organizational strategies and daily operations.
Prepare reports and provide updates on safety performance, leading and lagging indicators, and improvement initiatives.
Foster a culture of safety by actively engaging with employees, providing guidance, and encouraging proactive safety behaviors.
Promote & maintain our streamlined feedback system to enable the timely collection and distribution of critical safety data, including near misses, observations, incidents, corrective actions, and controls.
Lead our internal Safety Committee Meetings to communicate, promote, and maintain a safe and healthy workplace by identifying, addressing, and preventing workplace hazards.
Attend Sonepar safety meetings to develop relationships with other safety managers, share best practices, and get aligned on upcoming projects.
What you will bring:
Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or a relevant field preferred
OSHA certification or CSP designation preferred
Minimum of 5+ years of health and safety management, with a proven track record of managing safety programs across multiple locations.
Current knowledge of state, federal, and local safety and environmental regulations
Experience writing Health and Safety Plans and Job Hazard Analysis.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong analytical skills to assess risks, identify hazards, and recommend corrective actions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex safety issues effectively.
Ability to both collaborate and work independently, managing multiple projects and deadlines.
Strong sense of personal accountability, integrity, and timely follow-through.
Strong and energetic leadership skills with the ability to engage and motivate teams to prioritize health and safety.
Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Location:
This is a hybrid position in Oceanside, Fullerton, or San Leandro, CA.
Salary Range:
This exempt position pays between $98,000.00 - $145,000.00.This salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, within California. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role.
