    Position summary

    BE PART OF THE CONNECTION

    In this role, you'll primarily focus on weather forecasting. In keeping with Spectrum News' "inform not alarm" motto, you'll provide easy-to-understand weather updates that help audiences make educated decisions. You will need extensive knowledge of severe weather. You'll be responsible for relaying accurate weather information to keep local communities safe, and you'll be part of a collaborative team that creates compelling, timely, and accurate content to connect with viewers across traditional and digital platforms.

    WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM NEWS

    Required Qualifications

    • Experience: Experience forecasting and presenting weathercasts - 5+ years, Severe weather coverage - 5+ years

    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, must have the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal or be able to obtain within 18 months of employment

    • Technical skills: Knowledge of synoptic meteorology, tropical and radar, working knowledge of TV weather graphics systems required.

    • Skills: Demonstrated enthusiasm in dealing with breaking weather news and high-stress situations

    • Abilities: Ability to anticipate situations, meet strict deadlines, organize and manage multiple priorities

    • Travel Ability: Must be open to travel to discover the important stories in your neighborhood and willing to interact with the community

    • Schedule: Ability to work different shifts or longer shifts due to "breaking news" and severe weather emergencies. Willing and able to work weekends and holidays

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master's degree

    • May be required to lift up to five pounds

    Working Conditions:

    • Works inside a climate-controlled environment throughout the year, however, will be assigned to field duties as necessary

    • Works in an open newsroom setting with a semi-noisy environment

    • Communicates in person, by phone and by email

    • Materials and equipment used: various studio, weather forecasting and newsgathering television equipment, computers and computer-related equipment
