Responsibilities
- Lead TikTok Shop communications efforts in Japan, and be the first point of contact for local operations and business teams
- Craft clear, compelling narratives that advance TikTok Shop's business goals and resonate with sellers, creators, and shoppers.
- Build strong relationships with top-tier nationals and trade press, proactively securing coverage, managing inquiries, and managing sensitive news cycles and issues as they arise.
- In partnership with market comms leads in Japan, handle inbound press inquiries and engage with media on a range of issues.
- Train and coach executives and subject-matter experts, equipping them with concise messaging for interviews and in-person events. Staff interviews and events on site.
- Review TikTok Shop externally facing content in Japanese including seller communications, presentations, seasonal promotions, logistics updates and more for accuracy and reputational risks.
- Work cross-functionally with regional and global communications teams based on regional and market needs to drive clear narratives about our business product, partnerships and vision.
- Serve as the primary Comms POC for local XFN partners (marketing, operations, policy, legal, creator partnerships), ensuring message alignment and advising on market trends, potential risks, and opportunities specific to the Japanese market.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Fluent in Japan and English (spoken and written)
- BA/BS degree or equivalent experience required
- Proven understanding of the Japanese media landscape
- Minimum 5 years PR/Communications experience gained working in consumer facing brands
- An excellent communicator who can successfully build relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Understanding of the Japanese e-commerce/retail industry and deep understanding of public opinions and media sentiment about commerce
- Ability to multitask efficiently under pressure and ambiguity, with self-starting and motivated attitudes in a cross-cultural and fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Crisis & issues management experience
- A team player who can lead projects and strong project management skills
- Experience working in social media, Internet, Technology companies.
- Experience working in cross-border, multi-cultural environment is preferred.
- Ability to cope well and gain trust with a broad spectrum of internal stakeholders, proven track record of working in a dynamic and large organization is preferred;
