The Trust & Safety (T&S) team at TikTok helps ensure that our global online community is safe and empowered to create and enjoy content across all of our applications. We have invested heavily in human and machine-based moderation to remove harmful content quickly and often before it reaches our general community.

    About the Team
    We are seeking an experienced individual contributor (IC) with experience in the following areas: data investigation and analysis, systems and/or risk control design, product and/or program management, and an understanding of technology strategy, to deliver on our core mission: to reduce and prevent harm from large scale abuse of the platform. The IC will employ a multifunctional approach to investigate and understand high harm trends on the platform, manage risk at a regional to global level, identify gaps in platform controls, and drive cross functional projects to improve controls and tools.

    The Scaled and Platform Abuse team is responsible for building capabilities and performing the detection and enforcement against large scale abuse by sophisticated threat actors who willfully violate our community guidelines and cause harm to our users. By removing high prevalence risks from the ecosystem, T&S is able to focus on high harm low prevalence issues and further improve on Trust & Safety for our users.

    It is possible that this role will be exposed to harmful content as part of the core role/as part of project/ in response to escalation requests/by chance.
    This may occur in the form of images, video, and text related to every-day life, but it can also include (but is not limited to) bullying; hate speech; child safety; depictions of harm to self and others, and harm to animals.

    Responsibilities
    What will I be doing?

    • You can expect your working week to be allocated as follows: 40% investigation on high priority escalated or high prevalence high harm trends, 20% follow up monitoring on ongoing mitigated high harm trends, 40% strategic projects and developments.
    • The team requires an analyst to perform multiple roles depending on the individual's aptitude and capability for growth: Program management: To investigate and mitigate high harm trends in assigned area of responsibility; Product management: To assist in developing requirements and controls to mitigate known abuses.
    • You'll work cross-functionally with policy, product managers, program managers, engineering teams, risk response teams and owning the end-to-end risk management process from initial issue/trend escalation to closure. In the process, performing the following (non-exhaustive): information collection and coordination, investigation and behavioural pattern identification, gaps/weakness identification in our systems and controls, recommend solution, follow-up with further analyses and advice stakeholders where necessary.
    • You will investigate harmful trends and profile their behaviours to generate insights to build data features, improve detection and refine strategies for risk response.
    • Through execution of daily platform risk management operations, you will help to develop best practices, risk indicators, tooling and product improvements which contribute to long term improvements in Trust and Safety's internal products, processes and in-house tools.

    Minimum Qualifications
    What should I bring with me?

    • You have a Bachelor's degree preferably in Humanities, Business Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics or similar.
    • You have at least 3+ years of experience in relevant domains (or domains with transferable skill sets) such as Trust and Safety, Risk Management, Investigations, Anti-Fraud, Product/Platform Operations or Cyber Security.
    • You are able to employ hypothesis based approach or evidence-driven investigation with SQL in a big data environment to develop insights.
    • You understand how real world motivations and behaviour translates into online behavior and the data generated on a social media platform
    • You have experience investigating high harm trends and/or threat actors across markets and understand how culture and behaviour can influence the data.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Even Better If:

    • Have a long term view towards the risk trends and the ability to co-create with stakeholders a roadmap or detailed next-steps that progressively solves the problem and addresses the root causes. You are able to set objectives, plan your work at a quarterly (3 month) interval to incrementally solve strategic problems.
    • Ability to perform essential risk lifecycle activities and provide advice to stakeholders: Identify, Assess, Monitor, Review. You are able to calibrate detection and enforce with high precision on high harm trends from start to finish within a month.
    • Familiar with the tools & techniques used in large scale platforms. E.g. Feature engineering/metrics development, visualisation/dashboards for monitoring, coordination of work on complex projects or complex stakeholder relationship, detection calibration (ML approaches) etc.
    • You have an understanding of technology and understand the capabilities and limitations when designing defenses, processes and/or recommending solutions.
    • You are experienced in statistical analysis or machine learning (multivariate analysis of variance, correlation/regression/classifiers, etc.) and its application to imbalanced data sets i.e. Fraud, Accidents, Violations etc.
    • You have experience in building productivity tools using generic tech stacks. E.g. Schedule daily SQL jobs to build data tables on big data platforms, integrating SQL alerts into push notifications on messengers, utilising Python in Jupyter Notebook and/or big data platforms to perform data processing and/or process automation.
    • You have a philosophical or ethical approach towards understanding harm.
    • You are competent and have an understanding of a second language and culture that has a major population regionally or globally.
