s. This position will also provide engineering support services for: research activities, field applications, sourcing efforts, and day-to-day manufacturing support. The goal is to design and manufacture railway freight brake components that are innovative and of the highest quality.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Locomotive Team in the Components, you will be responsible for the development of time standards for production operations and to provide cost estimates for new industrial rubber products and to improve productivity and costs through industrial engineering principles. This position is also accountable for applying lean manufacturing principles and coordinating QPS activities.
This role reports to the General Manager. Remote work is not available.
What do we want to know about you?
Competent working knowledge of engineering principles
Air compressor or pneumatic valve product experience a plus
Knowledge of the rail industry, pneumatics, and/or hydraulics a plus
Experience and competence with 3D CAD software (PTC CREO a plus)
Experience with finite element analysis (Ansys a plus)
Must be proficient with computers, Microsoft Office software
Excellent verbal and written communication/language skills required to include the ability to provide written and verbal instructions, compile and present business reports/correspondence, and present information clearly
What will your typical day look like?
Hands-on, physical product testing
Instrumentation experience (pressure transducers, thermocouples, LabVIEW, Keyence).
Basic PLC programming knowledge.
Some experience with a product-based business (bill of material structures, ERP systems).
Work independently or with a small team to design and develop new products and improvements to existing products using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product requirements.
Prepare documentation required by the product development process such as design requirements, validation plans, 3D models/drawings, and test reports.
Perform 3D detailed model development using CREO to create drawings and schematics.
Perform failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
Coordinate part procurement and assembly of engineering prototypes.
Plan, develop, and execute product validation test plans.
Analyze test data and generate test reports to verify the performance, reliability, and safety of new designs and/or products.
Provide engineering support to manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and sales & marketing.
Specify, acquire, and set up instrumentation to support engineering test requirements.
Create customer interface documents such as technical presentations, parts catalogs, and operation & maintenance manuals.
Write engineering change documentation consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field
2-5 years of related work experience involving mechanical product design or mechanical product selection and qualification
What about the physical demands of the job?
Ability to work in engineering lab and workshops as well as office environment
Ability to stand/walk for 8 hour period
Occasionally bend; stoop; and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (less than 2 hours/8 hour work day)
Frequently stand; walk; talk; hear; use hands and fingers to handle; reach with hands and arms (up to 6-hours/8 hours day)
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
