Position summary

uties and Responsibilities**

  • Diagnose machine problems and repair machines including disassembly, fabricating parts, and reassemble as necessary in a clean workman like manner.

  • Suggest low-cost methods for repair of machines. Communicate the potential solutions verbally and in writing to the supervisor.

  • Plan, organize, and track department projects.

  • Coordinate projects with Engineering personnel

  • Install and maintain all kinds of machines and equipment.

  • Weld as necessary using electric arc, gas, T.I.G., and M.I.G. welding equipment.

  • Work with apprentices on completing hours needed for the Mechanical Apprentice training program.

  • Reconcile monthly maintenance purchasing card activities.

  • Identify unsafe working conditions and tools and recommend changes to promote worker safety.

  • Operate and maintain department CMMS system to ensure accurate machine preventive maintenance.

  • Additional duties as requested by department supervision/ management.

Expected Areas of Competence (i.e., knowledge, skills and abilities)

  • Have adequate working knowledge of the National Electrical Code

  • Must be able to work without constant supervision.

  • Exert heavy physical effort, work in difficult working positions, dirty and disagreeable conditions, and lift materials weighing 20-50 pounds.

  • Have knowledge of and skills to operate all manual and power hand tools, machine tools, and electrical measuring instruments.

  • Have a good working knowledge of hydraulic systems.

  • Have basic understanding of electronics systems, with an understanding of ladder logic.

  • Be able to work with layouts for wiring of fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment

  • Ability to create solutions to complex problems.

  • Ability to identify cost saving methods and recommend changes to department management.

  • Must have working knowledge of packaging equipment and power tools.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required, along with at least 7 years previous experience as a maintenance technician or mechanic in a manufacturing environment.

  • Must have completed a four year Master Mechanics apprenticeship program.

  • Previous experience performing mechanical maintenance on CNC machines strongly preferred.

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 5%.
