Welcome to I Love My Job, the series where we hear from women who really love their jobs. In this edition, we sat down with Jordan Hoffa, Director at Moody’s. During her nine years at Moody’s, Hoffa tells us that she’s had “quite the journey.” This adventure started when she joined Moody’s right after college as an inside sales rep before growing to manage her own book of business in the academic space only 15 months later.

Next in her career journey was acting as a player-coach, with Hoffa spending time working in management as well as sales. Then, “in 2021, I moved full-time into sales management on our public sector team, working with our reps who cover government agencies, academics, and nonprofits,” Hoffa shares.

Reflecting on her nearly decade-long career at Moody’s, Hoffa notes that “people stick around at Moody's for a long time because not only is the work rewarding, but we genuinely like each other and like working together.” In fact, she tells us that her favorite thing about Moody’s is the people.

“You spend a lot of time working with different people at Moody's, and this allows you to build professional and personal relationships throughout the company,” shares Hoffa. “People are always willing to help or introduce you to new people throughout the organization.” And these connections are made both in the office and outside, such as with happy hours or volunteering events. “This gives people the chance to get to know each other and connect on a personal level,” Hoffa says.

In the video below, Hoffa shares more about why she loves working at Moody’s. We also provide lightly edited highlights from the video discussion in the following article.

What do you find most exciting about your work?

Uncovering and helping to solve organizations’ problems. I love working with our clients and prospects to learn about their businesses and to think about how we can help. We have so many products that are all so versatile and can help different industries, organization sizes, use cases, and objectives.

It's exciting to say that we work with the largest brands in the world, but we can also help small municipalities, community banks or startups.

How would you describe the culture at Moody’s?

The culture at Moody’s is very collaborative. You're often working with other people on tasks, which helps us to maximize our resources and knowledge base. Everyone has very defined roles, which allows them to become specialists on something, whether it's an industry, a product, or a process.

A really unique thing about Moody's is that everyone is recognized in the sales world and rewarded for their help. This environment allows for greater visibility, opportunity, and transparency. Plus, it lets you get to know your colleagues as well.

How does Moody’s support you?

At Moody's, work-life balance is not just a buzzword — it's a goal that's shared from top down. During the pandemic, I needed to relocate to a different city for personal reasons, and there were no questions asked by my manager. He immediately began working with our HR business partners to make that happen.

And now, post pandemic, being remote has not hindered my opportunities or connection to the company at all. In fact, my connection is even stronger because when I'm with my colleagues, in person, it's very purposeful. And, when I'm remote, I have flexibility to manage my time, both personally and professionally.

Besides the day-to-day flexibility, we also have a very generous vacation policy and initiatives like Summer Fridays, which allow people to spend more time doing what they love and with people they love outside of work.

What advice do you have for other women looking to work at Moody’s?

Be open to all the opportunities available. While you may have specific experiences or interests, we could have a current need for something else that you'd be great at. We're often looking for a personality fit versus just what is on your resume. So, if you're interested in learning and working well with other people, we'll be able to get you up to speed on a role that you might not have prior experiences with

Plus, as I mentioned before, people stay at Moody's for a long time, and part of that is because of new opportunities that are always available. We support people moving around internally, and we really want people to grow in their careers and in this journey with Moody's.
