Jennifer Aniston Has The Perfect Response For When Someone Asks Why You Aren’t Married

In a recent interview with Elle, Jennifer Aniston sat down to talk about kids, love and her new Netflix movie, Dumplin’. Plus, she shared the perfect response to why she's not married.

Aniston recently split with actor Justin Theroux, who spoke to The New York Times in September about the breakup. He called it an amicable one. In choosing his words carefully, he explained that "it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity.”

Theroux and Aniston first announced their divorce back in February, according to People. The news came after more than two years of marriage and nearly seven years spent together. Flash forward, and the world seems to still be obsessed with Aniston's love life. 

“We live in a society that messages women: By this age, you should be married; by this age, you should have children,” Aniston reportedly told Elle. “That’s a fairy tale. That’s the mold we’re slowly trying to break out of.”

“Why do we want a happy ending? How about just a happy existence? A happy process?" she asks. "We’re all in process constantly. What quantifies happiness in someone’s life isn’t the ideal that was created in the ’50s. It’s not like you hear that narrative about any men.”

“It’s always the woman who’s scorned and heartbroken and a spinster; it’s never the opposite — the unfortunate thing is, a lot of it comes from women,” Aniston goes on. “Maybe those are women who haven’t figured out that they have the power, that they have the ability to achieve a sense of inner happiness.”

Aniston, if anyone, has figured out her power. At 48 years old, a time when many actors and actresses begin to slow down, Aniston shows no signs of stopping. She was ranked second on Forbes' list of highest-paid actresses in 2017. And, on top of her new Netflix movie, she's about to start filming for her new TV show costarring Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell and will appear in two additional Netflix productions, Murder Mystery and First Ladies.
