In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Rachel McAdams addressed the speculation that she had her first child, a son, with screenwriter boyfriend, Jamie Linden. In the interview, she confirmed that she is indeed a new mom.
Speculation began in February when reports of the actress' pregnancy broke, even though she never appeared in public with a baby bump, according to PEOPLE. She was seen in April walking beside Linden, who appeared to be carrying their newborn baby in his arms. The couple has always kept their life together private. They never walked a red carpet together, and weren't pictured together until they were waiting in line for the Louvre in Paris ahead of the Cannes Film Festival in May 2016.
That said, McAdams was never quiet about wanting to be a mom someday. In 2009, she told PEOPLE that she wanted to be a mom someday, as she promoted the film The Time Traveler’s Wife in which she played a mother.
“Having a few [kids] would be great,” McAdams said, adding that she’s “looking forward to it someday" and pointing to her own mother for setting an example. “My mom is a great inspiration to me. She’s a nurse and very nurturing and gentle. She lets me be who I am. Hopefully, I can take on those qualities and be as great as her.”
Now that the happy news has officially broken that "someday" has come for McAdams, she has called her new motherhood "the greatest thing that’s ever happened to [her], hands down," according to USA TodayAt 39 years old, she said she was happy to have another person in her life to focus on.
"[People say] your life is not your own anymore," she said. "But I had 39 years of me, I was sick of me. I was so happy to put the focus on some other person. I waited a long time [for motherhood]."
She also added that she wouldn't change her new life for anything.
"I’m having more fun being a mom than I’ve ever had," she said, according to USA TODAY. "Everything about it is interesting and exciting and inspiring to me. Even the tough days — there’s something delightful about them."
