In the "new normal" how should you start off a job interview?
The old advice was to always give a good firm handshake.

Great question! Are you talking about in-person interviews or remote ones — and if remote, over the phone or video?

I was thinking about in-person, but ideas for beginning a remote or phone interview would be good too.

I think in any situation now when you can't make a handshake, greeting them and checking in with the interviewer and is a great way to start off strong — like Ashley mentioned below! Even addressing the challenges of the new normal can help break the tension.

In the virtual world we've adapted more than we would believe. I would say the virtual "handshake" for myself has been asking how they are and to have done my research before. (e.g.) Check out their LinkedIn for a potential commonality to bring up in convo.
