Trying to make a change
I’ve been an MRI technologist for almost 20 years and am very burned out on direct patient care. I have one more semester of an MBA-Healthcare Management program. I’m working on tweaking my resume but I’m trouble transitioning it away from MRI. Can anyone recommend a resume writer they’ve used? Unfortunately, relocating for a job isn’t an option and Charleston seems to be a “who you know” type place rather than “what you know”.

Angela, transitioning can be challenging, and it takes a well-thought-out career story, a good game plan, and sustained effort to make it happen.
Since I don't have a copy of your resume, I took a quick look at your LinkedIn profile to see how you are positioned there. You are squarely positioned as an MRI technologist and I assume you are positioned the same on your resume.
There are ways to de-emphasize your MRI background and re-position yourself for your target sector - Healthcare Management - on both documents. Refocusing your summary section is one way.
Your LinkedIn summary is currently 90% focused on your MRI background, with a single sentence mentioning healthcare management studies.
In both your LinkedIn and resume summaries you can shift the focus away from MRI tech to healthcare management by using the space to highlight transferable skills, relevant educational accomplishments, the most relevant courses in the curriculum, the kinds of positions you are targeting, why you would be a good fit and why your background as an MRI tech would be a value-added to the role.
To help you identify transferable skills, look at job postings for healthcare management positions and assess your skills vs. the required skills - what skills do you currently use that would be transferable?
You can do the same with your job descriptions - you currently have just job titles with no descriptions. You can use the space to highlight transferable skills.
Your cover letter is also going to be important - another opportunity to tell your story.

Angela- I hear you loud and clear! I worked in the Cardiac Cath lab/ IR/electrophysiology lab. Then transitioned to working w J&J working for their electrophysiology company. I am so burnt out on the lab setting, direct pt care, and none stop travel. I am also finding it challenging to take transferable skills to get into research or any WFH opportunity.
I’m sorry I don’t have anyone in mind, but just wanted to let you know you are not alone. It’s hard to find helpful information on technologist wanting to exit the patient care area of the medical field. I do recommend finding a writer with a medical background. Best of luck. Sorry to hear about this. It sounds like you know your current situation isn’t working for you and you are trying hard to find a better fit. In this case, you probably benefit from researching on side branching. Find another role that requires your skill set, and network and network. Even consider alternative arrangements to your current role so you work less. Allocate sufficient time for researching so you know where you want to land next. You don’t want to be landing in another role that’s similar to this time. You will need at least 3 months considering you are working full time.
