Does anyone have connections with recruiters who work to fill NYC/remote jobs in marketing?
No, but I don't think you have to have connections to get in with recruiters. While recruiters work for the hiring company, they are looking for candidates who meet the criteria AND are interested in changing jobs - so you're helping them by getting in front of them.
Here's my strategy - it's time-consuming to set up, but I personally have had some good success so far.
STEP 1: Create a list of recruiting agencies in the space you are targeting. I created mine through google searches, combing association websites, by noting recruiting firms as I searched for the job titles I am targeting on LinkedIn and Indeed, and by doing a LinkedIn search using key words. I have about 70 so far - I keep a folder on my bookmarks tab so I can add as I go.
STEP 2: Submit your resume to all of the companies you identified, with a 3 bullet explanation of who you are, what role you're looking for, and your location interest. Many recruiting firms have a way for candidates to submit a resume on their website for inclusion in their database. If they didn't have one specific to candidates, I used their general inquiry form or emailed them directly. If they had a posting for a specific job I was interested in, I would apply, but I still would also send in a general candidate inquiry - so they know I'm in the market for work as it comes up.
STEP 3 - Look up each of the recruiting agencies on LinkedIn, pick someone who works there and send them a message with that same three bullet intro (make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date before doing this). I didn't spend too much time worrying about who I picked, I just tried to find a title that indicated they do the actual recruiting work. Most recruiters have LinkedIn's premium feature, so you can message them for free without being connected. I would say about half the people responded with a thank you, and they will keep me in mind.
STEP 4 - reach out again if 2 months have passed. Being top of mind is important.
This strategy has generated several solid leads. I've had phone conversations with 6 recruiters I found this way about current and potential future opportunities and am interviewing for a few of them - ones that aren't being advertised generally.
Good luck in your search.
You're asking about recruiters that work for the company as an employee or as a "hired agency" correct? Because recruiters don't find you jobs. They're hired to find employees to fill jobs for their clients, the companies.
