Hi, I was working as a Teacher in Montessori school for more than 12 years.

As I was busy helping my daughter with school work and after school activities. I recently graduated with a degree in Business Management from an online college. I have tried unsuccessfully to change career from teaching to business related jobs. I am ok with unpaid internship. Any advice on how to approach or any mentoring program information will be very helpful.

Maybe your school, even if it is part-time at first is looking for a business manager? I have my MBA and recently was hired in as one. It will definitely stretch you, plus it helps to know the students and the families. If your school doesn't have one you could offer to get the Business Department up and running which will give you experience.

Many of our teaching skills are incredibly relatable in the business world. While I hold a degree in teaching, and have tutored for many years now, the bulk of my career is in Customer Service/Account Management. I will shout from the rooftop that obtaining my teaching degree (which I only did 7 years ago) has certainly bolstered my ability to be a more effective account manager. I happen to be trying the opposite of what you are. I pray, very soon, to be teaching full time!

I worked in B2B sales for many years and really enjoyed it. Some of the best salespeople I know were previously teachers. They are exceptional at educating the customer which is an important skill in today's world. Every industries needs good salespeople and there are so many avenues for growth in these careers.

I've been getting a lot of ads in my Facebook feed for an organization called Guidepost Montessori; they are an expanding national network and look to have some business-related, rather than classroom-related, jobs posted. I have no affiliation with or opinion about them other than this to suggest as a place for you to check out.

Look for educational consultant jobs in companies supporting the teaching industry. You’ll gain sales and other Biz experience. Eventually you’ll be able to transition to other industries if you want to. But this is a rapidly growing industry with lots of options: curriculum development, software, state gov consulting, so much! I think it will satisfy your initial attraction to the Ed industry as well as your current desire to grow and change. Good luck!
