Hi there everyone.
I have spent the last 12 years in informatics. Sadly in October, I was laid off due to a rif. Before that, I was a facility medical coder. But I have not production-coded for 12 years. Now that I am looking for a job a good way to fill the gap would be to go back to coding. But the moment they find out I have not production coded in 12 years they don't want to speak to me anymore. I am not sure what to do. While I did not production code I did still code. But most hiring managers don't want to hear that. Any thoughts?
People are gonna mad at me for saying this and say it's immoral, but honestly, i'd tell a little white lie and say you used it sometimes at your last job. You shouldn't be passed up on a job, because you haven't used the skills in a past job, even though you do know them! It would be different if you had no product code experience, but you have it so go get the job you deserve. I've done similar things before and it gets me past the interview and once I'm on the job no one cares.
