For those who’ve designed their own website for a branded page or side hustle...
Have you used WIX, Squarespace or another platform not mentioned? Did you find it useful? I’m trying to outweigh the pros and cons for each so any advice would be great!
I used Weebly and love it. It's plug and play. After a friend created the site she created a "playbook" so to speak on how to best use each tool within the sight. I've surpassed her book, she left, now I do it all myself.
I made my own after learning some HTML and CSS using GitHub Pages (https://pages.github.com/). It's definitely more technical but they do have templates to start from and it's free.
Interesting! Do you have a tech background or was it kind of easy to teach yourself?
I do have a technical background and I enjoy learning new programming languages. But there so much great information out there so I didn't find it too hard to learn. Coursera and EdX should both have some great HTML classes to make a static page from scratch. I haven't used GitHub's template pages but I would expect them to be pretty easy to use too.
I’ve always hired a web designer, so I’d be interested in hearing about people’s experiences using these sites as well.
I don’t know much about WIX my sister uses it for her small e-commerce art store and she loves it!
I use Squarespace for a branded page and I love it. It was very simple to set up and create. If the site isn’t meant for large page views and more meant to be shared to individual people, it’s really affordable. It’s also free to set up and just try out — while requiring very little time and effort to do so!
