Breaking into Tech Industry

Hi Everyone! I was laid off in the beginning of the year and have been looking for new roles. My past experience has been in Sales Enablement, Change and Communications Management for non-tech companies. For my new role, I want to do the same type of work but with a Tech company. A lot of the roles are looking for Saas experience which I do not have. Do y’all have any tips on breaking into the Tech industry? I would love to connect more!

I'm in the SAME boat! I've always been 'tech savvy' but don't have the 'required skills' often listed, i.e., SQL, etc.

I've been in the tech industry 10 years, and it's a known thing that it's hard to get your first job to get experience when it's hard to get that job to get experience . . . that's typically worse though in more technical roles, i.e. development. Honestly the advice to go forward with the confidence of a mediocre white male applies here--apply anyway! I've seen various stats around how men will apply if they meet 60% of a job's requirements and women do if they meet 100%. Try to emphasize communicating with cross-functional teams, multiple stakeholders, etc. Tech companies often want people in those roles who can communicate technical information to non-technical leaders/customers, so anything from your past that you can speak to in that area would be good to include too.

Thanks for the tips! You are right.... I look over the description and if I don't meet most of the criteria I move on. I will be sure to change my approach!
