Changing Jobs After 4 Months

I have been in my job for only 4 months and am now being recruited to another company, and I don't know how to deal with this. I know the hiring manager at the other company and they keep sweetening the offer to get me to leave my present job. I'm just now getting over the "being new" phase at my current company and am not looking forward to restarting that again so soon. But, I do think I made a mistake taking my present position in that I have very little work/life balance and am always working. I like the people I work with, but the owner -- my boss -- hired me to replace him working so hard, so there's no sympathy coming. I do feel I'm being taken advantage of. Is it okay to jump? I'd love your thoughts. Thanks.

So, I actually withdrew before they made the offer because my gut kept telling me it was not where I should be. Thanks for all the really good advice!

I knew in my last job by week 5 it was not the right place for me. The months that past proved to be terrible and I left after 7 months. Now I have been offered my dream job. Trust you gut and believe what is meant for you will find you.

You can 100% change jobs even after 4 months. You shouldn't have to suffer for a whole year or more to validate making a change in the eyes of others. Explore what else is out there! You deserve to feel happy and fulfilled in your work!

Idealistically having an a job we enjoy is the best option, although finding that “perfect” job sometimes seems to be forever out of our grasp. Sit down and brainstorm a list of important attributes that bring you joy at your current workplace. Prioritize them. Get a feel for the fit at the other company - for you. It is easy to see another option as “the grass is greener”. Have some questions lined up that are important for you to be happy in your workplace. Talk with people at the other company. Then you can weigh the pros and cons of both businesses and decide more firmly whether to stay or jump ship.

If you feel your current position isn't a good fit, look into the other position. Take a good look at the other company and see if it's a better fit for you. If it is, quit and don't look back. You need a better work/life balance and it doesn't sound like your current boss is prepared to (or interested in) giving you that. I had a job once that I knew wasn't right for me after two weeks. Cut your losses and move on. You may like the people you work with now, but there's no reason you won't like a new position even better if it offers you things you don't have currently.

any negatives about the offered position except being the new person? If the offer is sweeter and the position better, then perhaps take it to your boss and let him know you are being recruited. Give him a chance to counter. If he does, great. If he doesn't leave without guilt.
