My father was an elementary school teacher by day, and worked as a janitor at night. Whenever I didn't understand a math problem, I would leave my math book open the table with the number circled of the problem I didn't understand. Then when he got home at 12:30 am, he would wake me up so he could explain the math problems. We had a complex relationship, but that's one of the little things I remember.
