Our goal for Barclays is to become a truly gender-diverse organisation. It’s crucial for us to be able to attract, develop and retain top female talent, and we want our female colleagues to have every opportunity to achieve their maximum potential in their career with us. We engage men in the drive for gender equality as allies. By empowering Male Allies, it has created a powerful network of global advocates, pledging to take action to be effective allies for women at work, accelerate gender parity and achieve a more equitable workplace.
Finance is the oxygen of the economy. Acting transparently and with expertise, we deploy finance responsibly to support people and businesses, acting with empathy and integrity, championing innovation and sustainability, for the common good and the long term. We have the capability and capital, the operational resilience and the commitment, to make a real and lasting difference to the economic lives of customers and communities. This is as true today as it was when our bank was founded over 330 years ago.
We remain focused on driving change, advocating the gender diversity agenda and building an inclusive culture. We achieved our gender target for 28% female representation in senior leadership roles by the end of 2021 and have reset our Gender Ambition for 33% female representation in senior leadership roles by the end of 2025.
We actively provide development opportunities for our leaders of the future, such as places on our development programmes. 50% of those who were promoted to Director after taking part in our Aspire programme, aimed at Vice Presidents, were female. 39% of the 240 Marketing Directors who attended the Enterprise Leaders programme were female in 2021.
