"It is a good place to work, benefits are mostly good, good healthcare, 5.5% 401K match for management (above average), free flight benefits, but it can definitely improve a lot culture-wise, salaries can be a little higher and there could be more promotions for women given the right talent."

"Depending on your job, it can be flexible or not, if you work in operations as a manager, then Overtime is required as long as there are flights, you have to be there. If you work in HDQ, it is a little bit easier with flexibility. "

"Corporate positions have more flexibility than those positions in the operation, but really it comes down to your direct supervisor as there are no policies around flex time or remote work. "

Did you take Maternity leave?
"Yes"

"While American advertises 10 weeks paid maternity leave, it is very difficult to get the full 10 weeks if you have a vaginal birth - 6 weeks is paid but you need doctors approval for the additional 4 weeks. This policy had been very misleading and the weeks off are determined through the benefit provider. "

"The biggest problem was other women who think they have to be men in a male-dominated industry, and who are threatened by other strong women.

"The women in leadership roles in my large department are a variety--some aggressive and favorite-playing, some kind and openly helpful. Management is still male-dominated, probably because flying is a "man's world," especially at a large, legacy carrier like this one. Other departments seem to have strong women who are also kind, but I think they've had to play some untenable games to get there. The board, making the largest spending and strategy decisions, is primarily men."

"The maternity leave is only up to 8 weeks and can be less, and will come out of any sick/vacation time you have acquired.
I worked here for 4 years in reservations as well as customer service at the airport. Those positions are in the same Union. Maternity leave may be different for other unions.
Other than lack of decent maternity benefits it is a unionized position and everyone is treated equally."
