"This is such a great place to work! I'm still fairly young and I'm not thinking about having kids any time soon, but the maternity leave here (16 weeks) is just amazing. We also have a great number of vacation days and unlimited sick days. Of course, the health care is the one thing everyone is talking about, we only pay $5 in copays! Everyone in the office is welcoming and want to make sure you succeed in your career. "

"Understand what team you are joining, what the specific expectations are from that segment of the business and where you are likely to have flexibility and autonomy within that (and where you won't). Also note that who you work for is important in addition to what you do - there is a strong culture of sponsorship here but that means you have to find a sponsor to be successful."

"The amount of flexibility really depends on your role. Most internal roles allow for greater flexibility on a daily basis, but there are some that are more challenging to be flexible with as you need to be in the office on a regular basis and can't work remotely. Client facing roles while they can be flexible are more demanding and require you to effectively communicate your time boundaries with client and team in order to achieve the flexibility you need. "

"BCG offers great programs to provide flexibility. In addition to top notch maternity leave you have the option to take up to 2 months unpaid leave each year and the option to switch to part time (and then back again to full time) at any point. The part time programs are very attractive (e.g. you can work 50% but will accrue pay and tenure at a higher rate) "

"The amount of flexibility really depends on your role. Most internal roles allow for greater flexibility on a daily basis, but there are some that are more challenging to be flexible with as you need to be in the office on a regular basis and can't work remotely. Client facing roles while can be flexible are more demanding and require you to effectively communicate your time boundaries with client and team in order to achieve that flexibility."

"BCG is an exceptional place to work as a woman. The firm places a significant value on diversity and inclusion, which is reflected in the resources which support women at BCG across career development, trainings, maternity leave policies, etc. This is not to say BCG is perfect - historically consulting has been male-dominated and that doesn't change overnight - but the firm has made a lot of progress and continues to focus on this topic as a key driver of overall firm success. I feel highly valued and supported as a woman at BCG."

"As a consultant, you will be expected to travel at some point. So to the extent that travel isn't family-friendly, the job won't be family friendly. It just comes with the territory. It seems like BCG is trying to do a lot to make things easier for parents, but again, the travel is a limiting factor that is hard to work around indefinitely, though you can avoid it for periods of time. "It's a demanding job and to be fair, it compensates fairly well in comparison to other consulting firms. "Support for women dwindles the lower down the ladder you are, leaving those with the fewest resources and greatest dependency the most vulnerable. More disposable and less visible administrative roles don't have access to the same organizational backup or negotiating muscle of six-figure consultants; obviously that's truer for women at every level across the board. Neither HR nor my manager were willing to act on my behalf after a partner and managing director repeatedly violated company policy with inappropriate (sometimes illegal) personal requests; as a direct result I resigned immediately after securing employment elsewhere."

"BCG is very supportive of women and constantly working hard to overcome the previously male-dominated culture. Our benefits are quite generous, and you can really take as much time off for things like maternity as you want (it just won't be paid after 12 weeks). It's client service, so there are always last minute requests and "fire drills", but in general it is quite flexible, without the need for "face time". This was very important to me after having kids."

"There are lot of unspoken biases. Women, early on, tend to get stuck with "low risk" modules. This makes it harder for them to prove their value on a team. It is more of a worthless till proven worthy model for women, whereas men are assumed to be good till they prove otherwise. There were very few women partners that were respected. Out of the 4 that I knew, only 1 was respected and liked. This perpetuated a culture that men were better leaders than women."

"Ask around and understand what the experience is like for the women you meet with. Ask about the portion of women and how it compares to the local area. Be sure that you agree with the reasons. Also -- if there are no women, it's probably not a good sign.
