"There is very little respect for contract hours with this school district. Teachers are regularly asked to eat their lunch with students. Buses are late several times a week, and teachers are asked to remain after contract hours until buses arrive. There is an inadequate amount of planning time, so teams must meet weekly outside of contract hours. IEP meetings are scheduled during teachers' lunch breaks so they don't have to provide coverage. Sub jobs are often not picked up, so classes must be split among the other teachers on the team when someone is out."

"Make sure you have enough money to take leave without pay if you get pregnant, and find another woman with experience making long term lesson plans if you are out during the school year. The administration at your particular school determine the school culture, so try to get in touch with someone in your prospective department, most people are willing to chat with you if you reach out."

"The particular school I work at could be more flexible but chooses not to."

"You are required to use all of your sick leave and personal time and take unpaid leave based on your FMLA status. If you have worked here full-time for over 5 years then you are allowed to use extended sick leave, but only for a very limited amount of time and only past what is covered by your sick/personal time. My school (high school) was very unhelpful with developing lesson plans to cover the time when I would be out, and did not get a sub that was qualified to cover my classes over a long period. When I returned my students had not learned anything, and the sub had not used my lesson plans or the work I left for them, and I had serious discipline problems with one class that admin did not help with, so I was left with this problem for the remainder of the year."
