"Overall, compared to other companies I've worked for, the Metroparks are better than most. That said, beware of the little things. These little things include new management hires and promotions, composition of who are at meetings and who are included in decisions, "ideal" employee personalities, and which colleagues "disappear" without notice or mention. Also, their leave policies leave little to be desired. Parental/maternity leave is little more than required by FMLA. It is unpaid unless you have vacation/sick leave, then you're forced to utilize all you have accumulated. Not all managers are accommodating in regards to allowing time to pump breast milk as needed. This is often "unspoken" by regularly being overbooked with meetings and other engagements where pumping space is not available. When the room mothers usually use for pumping was "borrowed" for temporary construction storage, an HR manager recommended I use one of the bathrooms instead. YES an HR manager, she said I should check out the bathroom, it was renovated and "really nice." "

"Flexibility really depends on the position you are in and is definitely not equal for all employees (even of the same position type.) Flexibility does not depend on the type of job you are doing, but what location you work at, what department you are in, or who your boss is."

"My direct manager is OK, but has definitely been not well led by upper management and HR, and/or is just completely clueless. Sometimes it doesn't feel like supporting or helping his employees succeed is his top priority. The majority of his direct reports are women. That said, he isn't the best at dealing with the emotions women can have. Rather than being supportive during a difficult time, he recommended being friendly and smiling more. In regards to flexibility or needing to be there for your family, he's pretty accommodating. "
