"Be extremely thorough in your interviews. Ask lots of questions about why the position is empty, how many previous people have held this position in the last 10 years. What is your potential manager's track record for employee retention. Be up front about being respected & listened to when you need help. Ask specifically about the critical role of redundant training within the team you'll be joining: whether taking vacation only results in coming back to a non-sustainable amount of work--or if other members of the team are used to helping each other out when absences occur, so that you don't return to a heap of morale-crushing work."
