"While I am not really familiar with upper management yet (I have only been here for a year) based on the promotional announcements I have seen, people seem to be promoted based on merit and not gender. Most of the hiring seems to be promotions from within. There is also a lot of longevity with the company. It is not uncommon to see people who have worked their way up from an entry level warehouse position to an executive, both male and female. And 20+ years with the company is common. "

"My department is great with flexibility and I thick that overall Costco tries to support it's employees. However a lot of polices are based on what can be done at the warehouse (store) level and that leaves a lot of inflexibility at the corporate level. Basically, there is a "well it wouldn't be fair for the warehouse if we did "x" for Corporate employees. And it makes me feel like we are treated like children where everything has to be "fair." There was a delay in how soon we were able to work from home at the onset of the pandemic because warehouse employees cannot do their jobs remotely."

"Different store managers run their stores differently and they are moved every 4 years or so. You can be in a boys club for a few years then it can be equal for awhile and vise versa"

"If you are twenty-something, female and cute, you have a great opportunity to be promoted quickly. People who join this company later in life, it is much harder to get into the management ranks. It is easier to manage someone who doesn't know what they are doing and can be molded into their image than someone who is experienced."
