"Some departments are total ‘frat houses’ (stereotypically speaking); dudes promoting other dudes they like and then sitting around all day together shooting the bull while their teams do all the work to get them credit. My experience was in Centralized Transportation and the way they treated women was circa 1990 and worse. Saw good, very qualified, hard working women (some that had given years to the company) passed over on promotions for inexperienced college grads that simply just “vibed” with the male-centric middle management. These same women were then shortly let go for menial & ridiculous reasons by their new power hungry supervisors. It was very discouraging. Also the terms I overheard used regularly (by management) in reference to strong, confident women were outdated and disrespectful. Additionally, I saw no men or women of color in management positions within any of the departments on our entire floor - it was appalling for such a large company. Personally, I couldn’t give the toxic atmosphere more than 3 months. Life’s too short. On the whole, as a company, KAR values their employees happiness - lots of benefits including a gym membership, beautiful office space, HR driven motivational campaigns, and free food trucks almost weekly. Upper management just puts far too much trust in middle and lower management. Very few people in leadership knew what they were doing. They would strongly benefit from regular leadership training/education - in fact, it should be required. "
