"I would tell another woman to be focused on getting every task on the substitute plan done. If all students are not completely done with a worksheet, tell them to set the worksheet aside and move on to the next topic. Come to the building as soon as the school opens and immediately read the substitute plans. Make friends and be on good terms with the office managers and all staff. Do not be discouraged or afraid to ask a helpful student for assistance with the classroom. The students love to help the substitute! The students know so much about how the classroom runs and they like being assigned a task, such as keeping time. It helps you and it helps the students like you so you can come back to work! "

"There is not much room for flexibility on substitute plans. All events for the 8 hour workday are planned down to the minute. This is assuming you will have no interruptions of misbehaving students or any other disturbance. A substitute tried to ask to go in early on their own time to prepare for the day because the substitute plans are so detailed and cannot be read in 15 minutes. She was denied. If you fail to complete all tasks assigned throughout the day with your students, you risk getting a bad review from the classroom teacher, thus affecting your chances of getting more "jobs" in the future. "

"You have an office manager and their support really depends on how prompt you were to work, how friendly you are, and if you get your work done. The school is a very busy place, so there is not much room for small talk. Human Resources is available for email. "
