"I didn’t understand the glass ceiling before I worked here. After my time here of nearly five years, I understood it very well. Very few women in leadership positions, and high performing women are often perceived as a threat to very insecure, boys club male employees. I think certain departments do much better than others in their support of leadership. Any department in operations is downright toxic to women. Women are continually given admin heavy positions in this company, including in operations. My personal last straw was when I watched my department, which already had very few women to begin with, go through a reorg. No women received promotions despite having longevity and qualifications and credentials that exceeded male colleagues. Meanwhile, all white male employees received promotions. The one female manager in the department actually received a demotion in the reorg. You can’t make this stuff up! Maternity leave is a joke. You are required to use all of your PTO before being given 8 weeks paid leave. The PTO here is replenished on an annual basis, so effectively you will be without any time off for an entire year after the birth of a child before your PTO bank is replenished. I watched good women get pregnant and leave because the policy does not set up women for success. I think there are good men who work in the organization, but the problem is systemic and permeates the organization. No amount of leaning in will ever change this place."
