"Depending on your department, there can be a really strong culture and support for women, however parental leave benefits are not great (12 weeks only, not paid) and very limited childcare, and often limited flexibility on where and when you work."

"Be very selective which units you choose, and study their turnover rates. Certain supervisors create toxic work environments and are allowed to continue working that way with little or no pushback from human resource departments or the deans they work for. "

"The benefits are some of the best I ever had, medical, dental and leave. You can use sick leave (actual honest to goodness sick leave, not all inclusive "personal leave" to take your kids to doctor's appointments. I pay less for medical and dental premiums and have much better coverage."

"It seems to really come down to your department's head, if you're lucky, you're lucky and if not you're restricted. My supervisor is incredibly flexible when it comes to work hours, working from home, and understanding that you need time off on occasion to get a child to an appointment, meet with teachers etc."
