"Be your own advocate. There are dozens of tools available to make your experience the best it can be, but the military at large is very poor at pointing people in the correct direction. "

"The USAF is a great place to work with competitive benefits and flexible scheduling. In addition, they offer childcare on base for a significantly reduced price, which is a huge draw! The only drawback that I see is that oftentimes leadership doesn't listen to employees about what they want in terms of future career progression; people are often pressured into applying for promotions when in fact they are not interested for various reasons (i.e. no interest in climbing the ladder, already have too many things on their plate, etc). The pay is not as much as you would see in private industry, but that is made up for with the flexibility and great benefits."

"The benefits are unsurpassed but the hours you put in for those benefits are often not worth it. They will take the best years of your life and convince you it meant something, but I have met many vets who regret the time they lost with their families."

"Probably the best benefits and pay for someone who does not have degree. Can be stressful but will give you the opportunity to see the world or maybe just different parts of the USA. Small family of 4 ( 2 adults, 2 children ) can live very comfortably in a nice home and middle class area with only one working spouse. "
