This institution values face-time and follows a strict hourly clock. It's challenging to have flexibility, but you are covered if you need to take care of a sick family member (sick leave is separate from PTO). Everything is very procedural and formal and must be approved.

There is an opportunity to make this workplace incredibly flexible if leadership would be more innovative.

  • One Thing Employer Could Improve

Improve work-life balance and policies (e.g. flex-time, limit face time)

  • Recommend to Women?

Maybe. There is stability in working for an institution, as well as good benefits. But if flexibility and workplace environment/morale is more important, this is not the place to work.

You will not be compensated fairly for the work, hours or expected investment. The people at the top have made good, good money for so long they cannot imagine others struggling just to get by.

There is positive and negative in any situation. Go in with your eyes open and recognize that the inside workings of the department are not at all the glitz and glamour perceived from the outside. Still fun, but don't know what it would be like under the new athletic director.
