"Positives:
Great benefits
Campus is lively, creative and you can have intelligent conversations
Co-workers tend to be nice and become friends
Nice place to retire to and work part-time
Negatives:
Low pay
Men tend to have higher positions even though the place has about 70% women
Old-school management style, hierarchy and a tier system. Faculty rule and then you go down the ladder.

"When you interview, don't be afraid to ask the genuine questions that matter to you. For example, if you're an entry to mid-level employee, don't be afraid to ask questions to the potential supervisor about their leadership style and opinions on professional development. What's their internal department approach, and is their a budget/resources for you to take additional classes, certificates, workshops, etc?"

"Culture can be very different based on department. There is wide-range of flexibility throughout the different departments at the University. In my experience, it depends on the department and even within the department itself. Oftentimes, it's your immediate lead/supervisor whom oversees your work that will enable and advocate for (or possibly hinder) your growth and development. "

"There are a lot more women there. However there is no leadership culture. So the women that get to the very top are often the bitchy, jealous bosses and sabotage other women. The current Chancellor has a very poor record of working with women. "

"Excellent opportunities for meaningful work, personal fulfillment, professional growth, and relationship building. Personally, I dedicate more time to work than ideal, but I recognize it may be due to my high-standards. Resources could be more plentiful, but that is understandable in a public sector/non-profit organization. "

"Overall, I think this is a good place for women to work. However, the university has acknowledged that there are far too few women in leadership roles given the majority of women who are in staff administrative roles. Hopefully this current state of affairs will correct itself with time, but advancing may still be a challenge in some departments."

"It seems that most departments on campus have reasonably good flexibility, partly because the university has family-friendly policies and partly because space is at a premium, so they seem to encourage flexible hours and telecommuting."
