Negotiate the salary and the hours you are willing to work up front. They will work a little bit with hours if it is consistant.

The company is incredibly disorganized right now and it's hard to feel like I'm contributing directly to the mission when that chaos is so apparent.

Don't be afraid to negotiate your compensation, male collegues of the same education and experience have started at much higher salaries.

June 2016

The nature of a rural location and boarding school schedule is it can be very isolated community socially; make sure you get to know who else you'll be living and working with, see if you are a good community fit. It changes year to year. These people will be your colleagues and friends; it is hard with the schedule and location to meet people in the greater community.

Women's opinions are not valued and it's especially challenging to deal with misogny from cops. It's very much an old boys network with male management and networking around sports etc.

October 2015

There are a lot of women who come in out of school. It helps that this is a very large engineering firm. But the atmosphere is hyper competitive where the loudest voice often progresses fastest. That said, it is *very* flexible with hours and work from home. Most people work remote and a lot of women are allowed to go to part-time hours after maternity leave if they'd like to cut hours, but keep working. That said, it is expected you put in 120%, so even on part-time you end up working longer hours than expected. There are very few women in leadership, but in middle management there are many.
