"This institution values face-time and follows a strict hourly clock. It's challenging to have flexibility, but you are covered if you need to take care of a sick family member (sick leave is separate from PTO). Everything is very procedural and formal and must be approved."

"At the time, I was working part-time, and I was guaranteed to 'keep' my job, but I didn't receive traditional FMLA coverage. However, they have a parental leave policy, and I was able to use all of my sick and vacation time, and thankfully had short-term disability to cover part of my leave. I had to be creative with working a day or two here and there within the leave in order to not have a break in state service which ended up happening anyway, because I didn't fully understand the leave policies at the institution."

"You will not be compensated fairly for the work, hours or expected investment. The people at the top have made good, good money for so long they cannot imagine others struggling just to get by."
