    Report: The Impact of COVID-19 On Women's Careers

    For the first time in over 50 years, women’s unemployment rates have reached double digits and the unemployment rates for black women and Hispanic women are among the worst, sitting at around 16.4% and 20.2%, respectively. With women’s careers adversely impacted as a result of the pandemic, it’s critical to understand what they’re experiencing and what they want to see from you to increase employee engagement, satisfaction and retention. 

    Fairygodboss conducted a survey to better understand what our community members are experiencing in their career and personal lives due to the impact of coronavirus. We surveyed 1,000 community members in May 2020 and found: 

    • Women are hesitant to return to a physical workspace and a third never want to go back and would prefer to remain remote indefinitely. 
    • Women are extremely concerned about losing their jobs or being furloughed in the coming months. Yet, despite this concern – or perhaps, because of it – over a quarter of respondents claimed they're more likely to look for a new job right now than they were before coronavirus. 
    • When asked what they wish employers would provide them with right now, women’s number one response was a stipend or reimbursement to establish a home office, followed closely by free or discounted online professional development opportunities or online learning.
